Referrals
What is a referral?
A referral is an order from your primary care provider to see a specialist. Some insurance plans require referrals.
How can I get a referral?
Visit your primary care provider (PCP), who will evaluate your concern and, if necessary, make a referral for you to see a specialist. In some cases, if you have seen your provider within the last year, you may not need to come in for an appointment to receive a referral. In other cases, your provider may need to see you before making a referral. You can also request a referral through MyChart, our secure online patient app/portal.
Should I contact my insurance company?
Yes, check with your insurance company to make sure the specialist visit is covered.
Also, check with your insurance company to make sure that Codman Square Health Center is your primary site — only your primary site can issue referrals.
Call the specialist you were referred to and book an appointment.
We have a specialized referral department available to help.
Our Referral Department cannot make a referral for you, but they can help you schedule an appointment with the specialist you’ve been referred to. Call 617-825-9660.
