Codman Relaunches Centering Pregnancy Groups

Codman is excited to announce that it is restarting CenteringPregnancy®️ groups. CenteringPregnancy is a nationally recognized model of group prenatal care that brings together 8-12 people with similar due dates, their partners, support people, and healthcare team. Patients meet for 10 prenatal visits following the normal prenatal care schedule, but each visit is 90 minutes to 2 hours long—giving patients 10 times as much time with their provider team. That’s 10 times as much time to learn, share, and connect with your community.

Centering Prenatal

The Centering model combines health assessment, interactive learning, and community building to help support positive health behaviors and drive better health outcomes. It brings patients out of the exam room and into a group setting which also helps build their community of support.

Research shows participating in the groups can improve a wide range of birth outcomes including lowering the risk of preterm births, reducing low birth weights, and increasing breastfeeding rates. With Centering, patients get all the routine prenatal care that they’d get in an individual visit PLUS time to receive education and talk with others sharing the same experience.

We are currently recruiting English-speaking pregnant patients who will deliver at BMC, and we hope to start groups in other languages soon. If you’d like to participate in Centering, please reach out to Dennis Nguyen at Dennis.Nguyen@codman.org.
